Dr. Miller is dedicated to the overall health of our patients, including ensuring open airways for proper breathing and quality sleep. Airway dentistry focuses on the structure of your mouth and how it may be affecting your breathing. Narrow arches and/or an underdeveloped jaw can cause sleep-disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnea. Airway restrictions impact your ability to get quality, deep sleep because breathing and sleep are disturbed throughout the night.
Symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnea include:
- Not feeling rested after sleep
- Grogginess and/or trouble focusing during the day
- Waking up gasping for air in the middle of the night
- Anxiety, depression or irritability
- Headaches upon waking up
If you notice these symptoms regularly, you may benefit from airway dentistry. A lack of a sufficient amount of high-quality sleep can impact many aspects of your physical and mental health. Obstructive sleep apnea has been linked to obesity, diabetes, depression, asthma and several other conditions. Sleep disordered breathing can greatly impact daily life, including causing trouble focusing at work, mouth breathing and delayed development in children.
We can treat the underlying cause of sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea with a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment option. A Vivos appliance worn mostly at night gradually expands a patient’s palate, allowing enough room to breathe comfortably while sleeping. This either reduces or eliminates the need for a CPAP machine in most cases.
Treating sleep apnea will allow you or your child to have more energy during the day and fewer side effects from poor sleep. Dr. Miller and our team at Golden Heart Dental want to help you catch plenty of z’s and improve your quality of life!
